Renter Guide

What Happens After You Request a Rental

Hit "Request to Book" or "Instant Book" and wondering what comes next? Here's a step-by-step guide covering how Ullor processes your booking, when you'll be charged, how to confirm pickup, and what happens after your rental ends.

1. Two ways to book: Instant Book vs. Request to Book

Ullor offers two booking methods depending on the listing and your selected dates:

  • Instant Book: If the listing supports instant booking and your dates meet the host's advance notice requirements, your payment is captured immediately and the reservation is confirmed right away. No host approval needed.
  • Request to Book: If instant booking isn't available or your requested times fall outside the host's preferred pickup/dropoff windows, you'll submit a request. Your payment method is saved securely, but you are not charged yet—there's no authorization hold on your card. You'll only be charged if and when the host approves your request.

2. Host review and response window

For Request to Book reservations, hosts have a limited time to respond:

  • Standard bookings: Up to 48 hours to respond
  • Trip starts within 3 days: 6 hours to respond
  • Trip starts within 24 hours: 2 hours to respond

Additionally, requests always expire at least 12 hours before your trip starts to ensure you have time to make alternative plans if needed. If the host doesn't respond in time, the request expires automatically and you won't be charged. You'll receive an email notification as soon as the host makes a decision.

3. When you're charged

Your payment timing depends on how you booked:

  • Instant Book: You're charged immediately when you complete the booking.
  • Request to Book: You're charged only when the host approves your request. If the host declines or the request expires, no charge is made.

4. Prepare for your rental

Once your reservation is confirmed, use the Ullor messaging system to coordinate with your host. Your pickup and dropoff times are set during booking, but you can discuss meeting locations and any special instructions. Keeping the conversation in Ullor protects both you and the host.

Check your reservation details anytime under Profile > Reservations. You'll find rental dates, pickup/dropoff times, total cost, and the listing's cancellation policy.

Don't forget: Bring a valid ID to pickup.

5. Confirm pickup and dropoff

When your rental period begins, both you and the host will confirm pickup in the app:

  • Pickup confirmation: Once you receive the equipment, confirm pickup in your reservation page. The host will do the same on their end. This step verifies that the handoff occurred as planned.
  • Dropoff confirmation: When you return the equipment, the host confirms the dropoff to complete the reservation. This marks your rental as finished.

These confirmations help protect both parties and ensure accurate records of when the equipment was exchanged.

6. After your rental

Once your rental is complete, you have up to 14 days to leave a review for the host and the equipment. Reviews help other renters make informed decisions and help hosts build their reputation.

If you experienced any issues during your rental—such as equipment not matching the description, damage, or other problems—you can report an issue through your reservation page. Our team will review the situation and work with both parties to resolve it.

Need to cancel?

Visit Profile > Reservations to cancel your reservation. Check the listing's cancellation policy first so you know whether you're still inside the full-refund window. If you need to make changes, contact your host through the messaging system to discuss options.
